LIZ LOKRE and The #RiseUpMovement | Local Music

I - you know, being really proud of my Country and all - am a total sucker for Canadian music. I also love a good message.

I first heard of LIZ LOKRE (Loughrey), when she joined the lineup for this year's Oakville Jazz Fest, which takes place, literally, a few blocks from my apartment steps. But, just a few short months later, she's up to something a little bit different.

The Toronto-based Pop-Soul artist dropped an empowering visual for her latest single, “Rise Up”, and it’s a poignant anthem for positive change. Written and produced by Loughrey, Adrian X (The Weeknd, Drake, Kylie Minogue) and Supa Dups (Drake, Mary J Blige) “Rise Up!” is more than just a catchy tune. It is a call to evoke a change in society, urging folks to “take less and give a little more.”

Loughrey adds:

“Rise Up! is more than a song, it’s a movement. The #RiseUpMovement is all about telling the stories of people who are positively impacting the world and encouraging people of all ages and walks of life to Rise Up in their communities. We turn on the news and are constantly bombarded with negativity and so it’s easy to feel powerless, but the #RiseUpMovement is spreading the message that we can do amazing things when we work together.. when we make LOVE our theme, and PEACE our goal.

The #RiseUpMovement focuses on telling the stories of people who are positively impacting the world and encouraging people of all ages to Rise Up in their communities. Loughrey has put together school workshops encouraging kids to create projects that stimulate communal empowerment and imagination. The stories compiled during her workshops will be shared on her official website

You can take part in the powerful movement by submitting your own story, via social media, by simply using the #RiseUpMovement hashtag and telling your story.

With a soulful sound, and subtle reggae vibes, it’s no doubt Loughrey’s musical style was influenced by the likes of Etta James and Sade; and with a message that promotes positivity and goodwill, it’s clear the up and coming pop star will be shining bright for a very long time.

The track will inspire you to make a change - are you up for the challenge? Check out the moving video below:
