Welcome to Venice Beach
In November, Pierce + I traveled to Los Angeles for his sister's wedding. I had never been to LA, though I have always wanted to go.
I grew up watching Laguna Beach - so when we booked our flights to the City of Angels, I was pretty stoked.
While we had some free time, we made our way to down to Venice Beach to rent some bikes and catch some fresh air. The great thing about the laid-back setting, is that there is no shortage of rental bikes.
I'd like to believe we are a couple that craves adventure, and even though one of us (me) is a little more pre-cautious than the other, once we had our bikes, we were off to explore the incredible scenery.
The beautiful bright colours made the day seem that much more surreal. Look to your left, and you will be mesmerized by the vibrant blue ocean, look to your right, and the characters that inhibit the area will capture you. Everywhere you turn will give you a unbelievable portrait, telling a million stories simultaneously.
We rode the trail along the sand until the Santa Monica Pier was no longer in the distance. My heart-rate amplified as I had flashbacks to watching Disney's The Weekenders, hoping one day I would have the opportunity to see the iconic ferris wheel up close, in person.
This was one of the first times we used our DJI OSMO handheld 4k camera, and I cannot rave enough about this amazing piece of technology. The crisp image, and the phenomenal steady cam feature, made for some gnarly footage - especially while we were cycling in motion.
As freelance film makers, we highly recommend this product for travel. It's easy to use, and small enough to carry around with you at all times. Not to mention, it connects to your smart phone, letting you have access to the footage almost instantly.
The view on the pier is magical. I felt like I was on a first date, feeling giddy when we posed for a photo together in front of the hypnotizing background. And although in this part of town, strangers feel like new friends, who are always willing to snap a photo for one in return, we did manage to take a few great selfies with the OSMO itself.
Our trip was an adventure that I will remember for the rest of my life. I felt as though we fit in with the Venice Beach lifestyle. Of course, our day ended with a random man proposing to me, and though I did decline, I was flattered by the kind gesture after my beet-red face toned down a few hues.
If you are travelling to Venice Beach, I highly recommend renting bikes and riding your way to the Santa Monica Pier. It's a great way to keep active and see everything the area has to offer in a quick + sustainable way.
