How to Stay Inspired + Motivated
"I never lose sight of the fact that just being is fun."
- Katharine Hepburn
March is my least favourite month of the entire year for multiple reasons. It's already 31 days too long, and next to February's short appearance, it seems to drag on even longer. I find myself counting down the days until April, but still feeling discouraged as winter seems to troll it's way into every predicted early spring. The weather is pretty emotional, with ups and downs worse than a human being, and the worst part of it all, is that warm weather seems so far away.
I can't be the only one that feels unmotivated during the brutal winter months, and even though I want to encourage myself, sometimes it takes a little extra to keep me going. Here are some of my tips for staying motivated + inspired.
Use An Agenda
Scheduling is incredibly vital for motivation. Seeing your goals + accomplishments written down can be somewhat therapeutic for those who strive for success and fulfillment daily. An agenda will also help you manage your time wisely, and aid in making sure you are taking a little special time for yourself. Many stores sell personal planners, making it nearly impossible for you to not find one that suits your personality. Some of my favourite agendas come from Indigo.
You might feel sluggish because of your immune system. Winter has it's perks (I'm still trying to find most of them), but usually it comes with a lot of carbs and minimal work-outs. A great way to kick-start your positive mood, detox your body naturally. Ginger, blueberries, cayenne, cucumber, lemon... these are all simple things you can add to your water or tea to aid in the detox process. My personal favourite drink is: water, lemon, cayenne, ginger, and a little bit of maca root. Your body will thank you.
Sometimes the trick to feeling great is looking great. This seems a little vain, but giving yourself a mini makeover can do wonders for your self-esteem. Especially if you're like me who completely forgets to give myself a pedicure in the colder months.
Read A Good Book
Escaping from reality for a few hours can do wonders for your imagination. I always find that after I read/listen/watch an enticing story, I am always motivated to get creative. It's an easy way to inspire yourself without even having to get up from the couch (which seems counter-productive, but it's not, I swear!).
Plan Your Getaway
That's right, just plan it. Having something to look forward to will get you through the long days and motivate you to amp up your work ethic. Sometimes I will look at flights + AirBnB prices just to excite me. It makes the 9-5 a little more tolerable if you give yourself a few treats a long the way.
Parent A Plant
Having something to take care of everyday is one of the biggest motivators you can have. If you're not ready for a kid, dog, or even a fish, opt for a plant (or a few!). They are (usually) quite easy to care for, and you wont go broke keeping it alive. Plus, you can give them cute names, and they are always photogenic.
Don't beat yourself up too hard over your lack of inspiration + motivation through the annoying last few weeks of Spring. It seems as though there are many people who feel this way, myself included. Always remember: this feeling wont last forever.
